As we enter the season of celebrating the glory, truth, and wonder of Immanuel – God with us — I want to remind you that He is not only present, but He is also present-tense. Always.
The Christmas season invites reflection and celebration of the coming of our Messiah. But remember, we are not waiting for our God to arrive. The I AM already (and always) IS. And everything He is, is available to us in Christ right now.
This month, let the Truth that the I AM is with you draw you into deeper awareness of the NOW of God and the present-tense power and authority of His IS-ness.
Operating in the Present-Tense Power of I AM
Understanding the NOW of God does more than give us a glorious faith boost that His promises for us are as present tense as ever because He is as present tense as ever. It also allows us to step into greater divine authority.
Why? Because everything that is in I AM … IS. It already exists in Him. When we understand the fullness of God’s IS-ness, we realize we are not trying to get something from heaven someday; we are partnering with what already IS in heaven right now — and we can declare it into the earth.
God shows us this from the very beginning. In Genesis 1:3, the I AM declares, “Light, be!” And light bursts forth into the natural realm because the One who IS light spoke into space and time what already existed in eternity.
We, as the I AM’s dominion stewards on the earth — made in His image and after His likeness (see Genesis 1:26–28) — have been given this same authority to decree. Job 22:28 promises that when we also decree a thing, it shall be established. Isaiah 55:11 makes it clear that God’s Word never returns void; it always accomplishes what it is sent forth to do. And Jeremiah 1:10 reveals that when we speak His Word, it goes out into the world to uproot what is not of God and establish what is.
Through the revelation of the present-tense power of the I AM, we speak eternal truth with profound authority. Because we know we are declaring from what IS, we can command it to BE.
Jesus Himself points to this in the Gospel of Matthew when He declared that once we are in Him, we become gates of heaven (the eternal) into the earth (the temporal):
“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”— Matthew 16:19 (NASB)
Heaven is the realm of I AM — the realm of what IS.
Earth is the realm where what IS is meant to be made manifest (see Matthew 6:10).
So, when Jesus says, “Whatever you bind … whatever you loose …” He is inviting us to operate in the same present-tense power of the I AM that He modeled:
• We bind anything attempting to exist on earth that does not exist in the I AM.• We loose everything that does exist in the I AM so it can manifest here.
We don’t bind and loose to convince God to hopefully do something. We bind and loose what we know already IS in the I AM and is actually meant to BE here on earth.
This is why understanding the NOW of God increases authority. Every promise, every breakthrough, every provision, every miracle is present tense in the I AM. And as those who are created in His image, carrying His Spirit, and entrusted with His keys, we have the privilege and responsibility to declare from the IS of I AM what is meant to BE.
Activation: Declare From the IS-ness of God
Take a moment to think of an area in your life where you’ve been waiting, hoping, or longing for a breakthrough. Now pause, and look at it through the lens of I AM:
• What does God already say about this situation?• What already IS true in heaven?• What IS present tense in the I AM right now?
Write down one promise from Scripture that reveals what IS in Him. Then turn that truth into a decree. Speak it out loud as one who understands the authority you have through the present-tense power of the Great I AM. Remember: what IS true in the I AM must come to BE here on earth!
For example:
• “By His stripes I am healed — so healing BE in my body!”• “I AM’s peace reigns in me — so anxiety go, peace BE!”• “The I AM is my provider — so provision BE released!”
You are not trying to make something happen. You are enforcing what already IS in Him. Because the I AM is present-tense, and His promises are present-tense, you can declare from what IS and command it to BE.
From the IS-ness of I AM … BE!”
Closing Encouragement
As you move through this month — with its celebration, its stillness, its hope, and sometimes its heaviness — remember: The same God who came near in Bethlehem is the God who is fully present with you right now — and fully present-tense.
Nothing you’re facing or dealing with is future tense to the I AM. Nothing you need is on hold in heaven. Everything you require for breakthrough, healing, peace, provision, and transformation IS already in Him — and He invites you to partner with His present-tense power to command it to BE.
May this Christmas season be marked by a renewed revelation of your authority in Christ, bold decrees of faith, and fresh encounters with Immanuel – The Great I AM who IS and is with you!
A very merry Christmas to you and yours!
