Every Thanksgiving night, the film that steals the show is none other than "White Christmas!"
Oh, I fondly recall Rudolph and Frosty... Christmas cards are being readied... Or are they?
But it's "White Christmas" that truly captures our hearts. That pure white snow IS the breath of GOD (Job 37:10: By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened).
That's the snow and ice...
"White Christmas" radiates warmth, love, joy, acceptance, and even the little misunderstandings along the way. Yet it all comes together beautifully!
The setting... the songs we adore. That cozy longing... the feeling that all can be well... Adults cherish it.
Children need to feel it too.
And the memories...
## Wreaths
Wreaths, often crafted from a variety of natural materials, symbolize the cyclical nature of life and the changing seasons. Traditionally made from evergreen branches, they serve as a beautiful reminder of resilience and continuity. During festive seasons, wreaths can be adorned with vibrant ribbons, fragrant spices, or even ornaments that reflect personal stories and cherished memories. The act of making or hanging a wreath can bring families together, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose as they create a visual representation of their love and connection to one another.
## Baking
Baking is not merely a culinary activity; it is an art form that brings warmth and comfort to both the baker and those who enjoy the finished products. The process of mixing ingredients, kneading dough, and watching something transform in the oven can be incredibly therapeutic. The aromas that waft through the kitchen evoke memories and create an inviting atmosphere. Whether it’s cookies for a holiday gathering, bread to share with neighbors, or a cake for a special occasion, each baked good carries with it a story and a sense of togetherness. Sharing these treats with loved ones, whether near or far, enhances the joy of the experience, as it becomes a gesture of love and thoughtfulness.
## Songs
Songs have the power to transcend time and space, resonating deeply within our hearts. They can evoke memories of special moments shared with loved ones, transporting us back to times of joy and celebration. The melodies and lyrics often encapsulate the essence of our emotions, allowing us to express feelings that may be difficult to articulate. Singing together, whether in a church, at home, or during gatherings, strengthens bonds and creates a sense of community. Each note carries a piece of our collective history, and the act of singing can be a profound way to honor traditions and celebrate life’s milestones.
## Church Bells
The sound of church bells ringing is a timeless reminder of faith, community, and the passage of time. Their melodic chimes can signal the start of a service, mark significant moments in the day, or simply call people to pause and reflect. The resonance of these bells often evokes a sense of peace and belonging, reminding us that we are part of something larger than ourselves. In many cultures, the ringing of church bells is associated with celebrations, such as weddings and holidays, adding to the joy of these occasions. The sound can bridge distances, reaching loved ones both near and far, and inviting them to partake in the shared experience of faith and fellowship.
## Loved Ones Far and Near
The concept of loved ones, whether they are nearby or far away, encompasses a deep emotional connection that transcends physical distance. In today’s world, technology allows us to stay connected with family and friends, enabling us to share our lives despite geographical barriers. The warmth of a phone call, the joy of a video chat, or the anticipation of a letter arriving in the mail can all serve to strengthen these bonds. Celebrating milestones together, even from afar, fosters a sense of belonging and love that is invaluable. The memories we create with our loved ones, regardless of where they are, become cherished treasures that we hold close to our hearts.
## Cards of Joy
Cards of joy are more than just pieces of paper; they are vessels of heartfelt messages, affection, and well-wishes. Sending and receiving cards can evoke feelings of excitement and happiness, especially during special occasions or holidays. Each card carries a unique design, often reflecting the personality of the sender, and can be filled with personal notes, quotes, or drawings that express love and appreciation. The act of choosing the perfect card and taking the time to write a thoughtful message demonstrates a level of care and consideration that strengthens relationships. These tangible tokens of joy can be displayed or kept as mementos, serving as reminders of the connections we cherish.
Not sending a text.
## Letters of Catching Up
Letters of catching up are a wonderful way to reconnect with those we may not see frequently. In a world dominated by instant communication, the act of writing a letter can feel personal and intimate, allowing for deeper conversations and reflections. These letters can recount life updates, share anecdotes, and express feelings that may have been left unsaid in previous conversations. Taking the time to write and send a letter shows a commitment to nurturing relationships, reinforcing the idea that distance does not diminish the importance of connection. Each letter becomes a cherished keepsake, a snapshot of a moment in time that can be revisited in the future.
O How Wonderful!
The culmination of wreaths, baking, songs, church bells, loved ones, cards, and letters creates a tapestry of joy and connection that enriches our lives. Each element contributes to a greater sense of community and belonging, reminding us of the beauty found in shared experiences and cherished relationships. The simple pleasures of life, when celebrated together, create lasting memories that can bring warmth to our hearts and smiles to our faces. O how wonderful it is to embrace these moments, to revel in the love that surrounds us, and to appreciate the connections that make life so meaningful!
The stars from the post-WWII era have gifted us with a treasure trove of feel-good memories. These are moments and feelings we often long to recreate. And if we don’t, we feel like something's missing.
Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire—the list was endless...
The film industry once crafted an ideal that has persisted for generations. It evoked a sentimental and lasting sense of hope and a promising future. This arises from the awareness of the GOODNESS that GOD bestows upon us... Faith played a crucial role in Christmas filmmaking. Teaching us to sing, enjoy, have hope, and create memories...
Yet, it's slowly slipping away. Sadly, many of today's entertainers have chosen to chase radical political agendas. And now we find ourselves saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." We see the Grinch more than the elves.
Black ornaments replacing the traditional red and green (red symbolizing Jesus' blood and green representing healthy living). Holidays now focused on skin color, a concept that didn't exist until racial issues were highlighted. The change has occurred, and the truth is being obscured.
Nonetheless, prophecy has come to pass... Isaiah 7:14 foretold that a virgin would conceive and give birth to a son named Immanuel (God with us). AND IT CAME TO BE!
What does this God with us mean as we look back on old films and ideals? It's depicted in all the classic movies and some newer ones.
Much like how Advent corresponds with prophecy and the expectation of Christmas (Christ among us),
the four Sundays before Christmas resemble the movies shown during this period, guiding us to the grand climax on Christmas Day!
Week 1: Hope, Week 2: Peace, Week 3: Joy, Week 4: Love...
Indeed, the film industry has captured these very sentiments, allowing us to delight in the season.
However, it's beginning to feel somewhat distant. Families divided by politics, households facing financial difficulties.
Children struggling with identity issues. Grandparents separated from their grandchildren (I see this often). The list continues.
Yet, as this generation endures, we cling to hope. We believe in peace. We understand the joy of giving. We love without conditions.
That essentially encapsulates the life of Christ, doesn't it? And it's the essence of Christmas we all YEARN for!
Let's keep in mind, amidst all the chatter about trends... One thing remains constant and unchanging, unaffected by Hollywood, literature, or politics... A Babe in a Manger, A Bright Star, Shepherds, Kings, and the adoration from Angelic Hosts.
Jesus was born to a Virgin Mother. He lived his life in accordance with the will of GOD the Father in Heaven. God loved the world so much that he gave us his son (John 3:16).
He died to purify us from sin, bringing PEACE through his sacrifice (LOVE), and rose from the dead to provide us with HOPE that leads to JOY!
All relished at Christmas time.
So when the carols play, let us remember...
It happened one clear midnight... far away in a manger, a baby lay, with a little drummer boy beside him, playing his drum like a heartbeat. Then, hark, I hear angels sing glory to a newborn king. High in the sky, a star shines brightly in the night, let us bring him goodness and light.
Everyone began to shout, "O come, all ye faithful, be joyful and triumphant." Listen, can you say, "Come ring those bells, let everyone declare, Jesus, we remember you, it's your birthday."
The truth be told... From classic films to new ideas.
Kings will bow, and people will know that Christmas wasn't long ago; it's here now in our hearts.
That's why I love to sing...
I'm dreaming of a White Christmas... Just like the ones I used to know... Where the treetops glisten and children listen to hear sleigh bells in the snow...
Blessings To you and Yours Merry Christmas
Theresa
