Is it possible to live in such a way that our love and passion for the Lord only ever increases? Something that has been on my heart and mind for the last several weeks is this idea of finishing well. It troubles me to see great heroes of the faith lose their passion and even their integrity when facing disappointments and challenges, despite great victories and breakthrough in their earlier years. Solomon is one of my heroes, and someone I have studied perhaps more than any other person in Scripture (other than Jesus). He had the privilege of having the Lord appear to him twice in his life! Many people don’t even get that experience once. It was said of Solomon “And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places.” (1 Kings 3:3). Despite Solomon’s great wisdom and fame, his heart was led away from the Lord at the end of his life. I believe there are two things that will keep our hearts soft towards the Lord and devoted to Him; remaining childlike, and coming back to our first love. I spoke on this a few weeks ago during a Sunday service: Running Your Last Mile Well. I hope this message encourages you, and stirs your heart to stay childlike and rediscover your first love. God’s design is to take us from glory to glory. May we be the ones to finish our journeys with greater joy, childlikeness, faith, and a greater sense of affection and delight in the Lord, than when we first started. Blessings,
