'When Will We Be CIVIL AGAIN' Dr Theresa Phillips

ree

We have all witnessed the horror of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, an event that has left an indelible mark on our collective consciousness.

The shock and disbelief still linger in the air, casting a long shadow over our society. Many are left shaking their heads in confusion, grappling with the question of why such a tragedy occurred. Some, in stark contrast, have taken to celebrating this heinous act, revealing the deep divisions within our community.

On that fateful day of September 11, the enemies of our nation unleashed a wave of hatred that has not only persisted but seems to have intensified over the years.

This spirit of animosity continues to permeate our culture, and it is alarming to see how it has wrapped itself in the guise of free speech, creating a false sense of justification for actions that are anything but just. These adversaries reveled in the loss of nearly 3,000 innocent lives, showcasing a complete disregard for human dignity and compassion.

Gone are the days when an assassination would be met with national mourning, where communities would come together to grieve the loss of a life taken too soon.

In stark contrast, today, Charlie Kirk is being elevated to the status of a martyr, and perhaps rightfully so! His life and the circumstances surrounding his death have sparked a conversation that transcends the individual, touching upon the broader moral fabric of our society.

Are We at a Crossroads?

As we reflect on these events, we must ask ourselves: Are we at a crossroads? Are we truly capable of discerning the difference between right and wrong in a world that seems increasingly polarized?

The question looms larger than ever, especially as we consider the implications for the next generation. Our children deserve to grow up in an environment that is not tainted by toxicity and division but rather one that is characterized by civility and mutual respect.

Perhaps it is time for us to revisit the dictionary and redefine what civility means in our current context.

Civility encompasses more than mere politeness; it is about acting with respect and courtesy, particularly in situations where disagreements arise. It requires us to show regard for others and their dignity, even when we find ourselves at odds with them. Civility involves maintaining good manners, steering clear of rude or confrontational behavior, and recognizing the interconnectedness of individuals within a community.

I'm fully convinced that Charlie Kirk has become a martyr through his untimely death, and the evidence of this lies in his character.

He embodied kindness and respect, always speaking with authority but never resorting to aggression. His ability to communicate with grace and dignity is something that should be remembered and emulated.

Yet, I find myself deeply concerned about how quickly he may be forgotten. Lord, I pray that this does not happen!

As I continue to pray and seek understanding, I have become convinced that Charlie's legacy serves as a seed of faith, meant to ignite a transformative movement across the world.

In my reflections, I realize how much we, as the Body of Christ, have lost over the years. We have strayed from the values of manners, hope, truth, dignity, and more.

Despite this, I hold onto the belief that God is still at work. He takes all things, even those that seem tragic or senseless, and works them together for our ultimate good.

As stated in Romans 8:28, "all things work together for good to those who love God," or as it is often interpreted, "in all things God works together with those who love him to bring about what is good." This promise offers us hope amidst despair.

A Call to Action

Charlie Kirk has become an instrument of change, even in death, igniting the world with messages of salvation and hope! The question arises: Is there a revival taking place? The answer is a resounding YES! Charlie has sparked this movement, inspiring individuals all around the globe to awaken to their potential and strive to embody the values he represented.

It is time for all of us to recognize that we are not isolated individuals; rather, we are united in spirit and body.

Now is the moment for us to come together, to be fitly joined as one, working towards a common purpose that honors the legacy of those who have gone before us. Let us move forward with a renewed commitment to civility, respect, and love for one another, ensuring that the light of Charlie Kirk’s message continues to shine brightly in the world.
