Preparing For Summer Gardening Dr Theresa Phillips

I absolutely love to garden, and right now, I am in the exciting phase of planning this growing season.

There’s something incredibly fulfilling about nurturing plants and watching them thrive. This year, I have set my sights on a variety of vegetables that I can cultivate right in my back garden.

Some of the key crops I am focusing on include potatoes, carrots, radishes, turnips, and beets. Each of these vegetables offers unique flavors and nutritional benefits, making them perfect additions to my homegrown produce collection.

But that’s not all! I have a long list of other vegetables and herbs that I’m eager to plant as well.

With the abundance of options available, I am excited to experiment with different varieties and perhaps even try my hand at some heirloom seeds.

The joy of gardening extends beyond just the act of planting; it’s about creating a sustainable source of fresh food that can nourish my family and friends. I've been baking breads and making jams for loved ones and it's been great!

In today's world, where we are constantly bombarded with artificial colors, preservatives, and processed foods, I have made a conscious decision to grow my own produce.

This choice stems from a desire to control what goes into my food and to ensure that my meals are as wholesome and natural as possible.

Having had my own farm for 17 years, I have learned a great deal about the intricacies of gardening and the importance of organic practices.

I am eager to put those skills to good use, cultivating not only delicious but also healthy foods that can contribute to our well-being.

I feel incredibly privileged that my husband is on this journey with me. As we enter this new chapter of our lives, which many refer to as entering retirement age , we have decided to embrace it as a time to “refire” rather than retire.

We are both passionate about staying active and engaged in our community, which is why we continue to minister and support others in various ways. Including our Charity Be A Hero A Hero

My husband plays a significant role in this, and he has also joined me in the lab where we are making skincare products together. (Redeem And Renew Skin Solutions) His enthusiasm and dedication to our projects are evident, and he is looking great while doing it!

When it comes to our gardening endeavors, my husband has been incredibly hands-on. He has taken the initiative to build the raised garden boxes, which not only help with drainage and soil quality but also make it easier for us to tend to our plants. We were Hoping to get a Greenhouse BUT YIKES!!! $$$

Yet, Additionally, he has embarked on a new project by starting a small vineyard.

So far, we have planted four vines, which is just the beginning of our goal to produce our own communion juice.

This endeavor adds a personal touch to our ministry,

( we pastor Praise Ministries Church) allowing us to incorporate our homegrown products into our spiritual gatherings.

We are thoroughly enjoying this journey together, and it brings us immense joy to cultivate our garden. Alongside the vegetables, we are also planning to grow a variety of herbs and flowers, which will not only enhance our meals but also attract beneficial pollinators to our garden.

Furthermore, we envision hosting gatherings in our garden, where friends and family can come together to enjoy the fruits of our labor, share stories, and create lasting memories amidst the beauty of nature.

The prospect of these get-togethers fills us with excitement and anticipation for the wonderful experiences that lie ahead.
